答复: Yes if you have a minor the placement has to be able to provide training in both. IP and Policy are sometimes hard to accommodate together so you may want to review options to see if it make sense to keep the minor. Field can help you with this.

答复: Field work begins in the first term for advanced standing and 20 month. It begins in Jan. for 16-month so it’s very helpful to have a car so you can have the widest range of field options.

答复: An advance standing student (12 mo) does three terms of field placement, this for the three terms they are in the program; Fall, Winter and Spr/Summer.

: Is there a field placement that can accommodate students studying IP-MH, but also wanting a certificate in SSW, considering you need 500 hours with youth/families/groups.

答复: If it’s a placement that allows you to provide service to children for 500 hours it will allow you to meet the requirement for school cert. You can talk with the field offce about this.

: If I applied for the child welfare scholarship back in February, when will I hear back if I received it or not? My program acceptance deadline is April 15th.

答复: Your Child Welfare application is being reviewed. A decision will be emailed to you at the earliest date possible.

答复: Yes, we would with several hospitals in the Ann Arbor, metro Detroit, and Detroit area.

答复: Location distance can vary; they can be in the local area, Detroit/metro or sub (45min), Lansign (1 hr), etc.

答复: Many students complete work-study jobs that range from 8-12 hrs. per week. Working more than 20 hrs. is quite difficult while completing the program.

答复: International students with F-1 status may work on campus up to 20 hours per week. They are not eligible for work-study positions, but they may look at other on-campus employment positions.

答复: Any non-profit organization is an option. The placement will just need to focus in on learning how to lead program, supervise employees, manage budgets, work with non-profit boards, etc.

答复: Yes the plus loan can assist with living expenses.

答复: Parking on campus is expenive, so student often opt to use the free commuter lots and take a short bus onto campus.

: was it hard coming here as an out of state student not knowing anyone?

答复: [Shelbby Bambrick Response] There are definitely elements of coming to a new place without any friends or family that felt a little scary at first, but I quickly learned that there are so many out-of-state students. We quickly began to build community together and also got to learn from our friends who were local. I think we, as social work students, are really intentional about making connections. There were a lot of opportunities to socialize and make friendships.

答复: You should clarify this with the field office. Your first field placement could focus on IP/MH and the second placement could be the one that accommodates the CO minor if this is true.

答复: Special programs had an applaication process that many applied to as the applied for the MSW progra. A specialty or certificate is something student decide to add to their schedule. They both utilize elective credits so it can depends.

答复: Can you clarify, interview for what? Field placement does not begin for a 16-mo student till the Winter Term 2018.

答复: The average class size is 25. Sometimes foundation classes are little bigger. Some practice courses can be smaller than 25.

: Can we apply to complete a dual degree after our first semester or does it need to be done before entering our first year?

答复: This depends on the deadline for the other program. Some programs have December deadlines and others have January deadlines. You will likely need to apply in your first or second term. If you are advanced standing eligible you would need to talk with OSS about this option.

: Will I have opportunities to do research projects with faculty when I am in my field placement (concentrate on SPE), as I find some of the field placements are research centers at UM?

答复: Yes this may be possible if you are placed with a faculty member at the SSW. If this is a goal of yours, let the Field Office know. There are many other opportunities to get involved with research while you are in the MSW program.
